The Story Behind Charlie Lindgren's New Mask For The Capitals
Capitals goaltender Charlie Lindgren debuted his new mask for the 2025-26 season.
ARLINGTON, V.A. — As Logan Thompson showed off his new lid on Thursday, Washington Capitals goaltender Charlie Lindgren also took the ice with a new paint job
.
Lindgren’s new mask features his classic “iceberg” design that he’s had on his pads since sophomore year of high school, but with a twist. The 31-year-old netminder has retired the “Lindy,” nameplate on his chin, this time, opting for “Ch, Ch,” a tribute to what that Alex Ovechkin and the Capitals have started calling him.
“I’ve had it on my mask since I came to Washington. I kind of looked back on it, like, no one’s even really calling me that. It’s always been ‘Chuck’ or ‘Ch Ch.’ This has been the first time (in my life) I’ve ever been called ‘Ch, Ch,’” Lindgren laughed. ‘I was just like… this year, ‘Lindy’ is done, ‘Ch Ch’ is the way we’re going this year.”
Along with tributes to the Capitals on the front of his mask, the backplate pays homage to his Christian faith and also features his daughter, Molly Mae’s, name and birth date, his spirit animal, the lion and his traditional quote from Og Mandino.
"I will persist until I succeed. I was not delivered into this world into defeat, nor does failure course my veins. I am not a sheep waiting to be prodded by my shepherd. I am a lion, and I refuse to talk, walk and to sleep with the sheep. I will persist until I succeed.”
Love the quote. Love the new mask.
