Capitals Wrap Up 2025 NHL Draft With Jackson Crowder & Aron Dahlqvist
The Capitals wrapped up the draft with four forwards and a defenseman.
The Washington Capitals made two final selections in the 2025 NHL Draft, finishing out their selections with center Jackson Crowder and defenseman Aron Dahlqvist.
Washington took Crowder in the sixth round at 155th overall, and selected 180th.
Crowder is coming off a decent year in the USHL, where he put up 24 points in 56 games, including 14 in his final 25 games with the Chicago Steel following a trade from the Sioux City Musketeers. He’s committed to play at Ohio State University next year.
The Allen, Texas, native is a hard-working center and identifies as a checking forward. Coming in 6-foot-3, 183 pounds, Crowder has size and strength and doesn’t shy away from getting physical and battling for the puck. He loves to make plays around the net, gets to the right places and will throw a hit when the opportunity presents itself. He’s also a versatile player who plays a responsible game at both ends of the ice.
After taking forwards, Washington opted for a defenseman and went with Brynäs IF blueliner Aaron Dahlqvist.
The 6-foot-4, 205-pound rearguard will absolutely punish his opponents and doesn’t mind disrupting plays and throwing big hits. He’s a shutdown defensive-minded blueliner and can play multiple roles and log heavy minutes.
He made the jump to the SHL this past season and played 16 games against grown men after developing with the junior teams and having 12 points in 37 games with the J20 team.
Washington finished the draft with four forwards and a defenseman: Lynden Lakovic (27th overall), Milton Gästrin (37th), Maxim Shäfer (96th), Jackson Crowder (No. 155) and Aron Dahlqvist. The team had the 123rd pick, but traded it to the Minnesota Wild as part of the trade for depth defenseman Declan Chisholm.
