Respect For Kopitar, Emphasis On Team Play & Plenty Of 'Swagger': Ovechkin & Capitals Break Down Win Over Kings
The Capitals break down their 3-1 win over the Kings.
The Washington Capitals stayed hot, but more importantly, they played smart en route to a 3-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings.
Tom Wilson, Anthony Beauvillier and Aliaksei Protas scored, and Logan Thompson stopped 22 of 23 shots en route to D.C.’s fifth straight victory.
Washington is now tied for the Metropolitan Division lead, and is 8-1-1 over the last 10 games.
Here’s what the players had to say after the win.
Alex Ovechkin
On the power play’s success: “We scoring goals. That’s the most important thing. We just have to stick with it… “We have pretty good chances… we take one right now and it give us confidence and give us when you make those plays, you feel comfortable out there.”
On having the Capitals shake Anze Kopitar’s hand after the win: “It show respect. Obviously it’s a game but after the whistle you know we show our respect to him what he’s done for this game, for this league. He has all of our respect.”
Anthony Beauvillier
On his goal: “Great awareness by (Connor McMichael and Alex Ovechkin). Obviously, first of all, Mikey blocking a shot there at the end of the PK and just going down the ice, O made a great play. Such a good heads-up play, I just had to put it in.”
On Tom Wilson: “He’s such a big part of our team. When he’s on, everybody’s on. I think he sets the tempo, every game, practice, anything. He’s just such a big piece, such an important piece for our team. The success he’s having this year just speaks for the work he’s put in and the way he’s playing.”
On Anze Kopitar: “Game respects game, and he’s had such a tremendous career and such a fun player to watch. it’s such an honor to play against him… it’s just paying our respects for one of the greats in the game.”
On what’s working for the Capitals: “… I think confidence and our swagger is such a big part of our group… we’re very confident in our ability to play and we feel like we can beat any team on any given night.”
Logan Thompson
On the Capitals’ performance: “I thought the guys did a good job of letting me see the puck a lot. They were blocking it. It was overall just another good team win. We’re just building off these adn we like being on the road, being together and just keep this thing going.”
