Capitals' Fehervary Expects To Be Ready For Start Of Season, Says Knee Recovery Is In 'Full Swing'
The Capitals blueliner expects to be back on the ice in a couple of weeks.
Washington Capitals defenseman Martin Fehervary is on the right track when it comes to his recovery from a torn meniscus and expects to be ready for the start of the 2025-26 season.
Fehervary saw his season prematurely in disappointing fashion when he tore his meniscus in the second-to-last game of the regular season against the New York Islanders. He had to undergo surgery and missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs, which left a major void in the lineup.
“My recovery is actually already in full swing,” Fehervary said on Sports.sk’s Góly z Bufetu podcast, per a DeepL translation. “I think I’ll be on the ice in a couple of weeks, so I should be able to finish the (offseason) just fine.”
He’s expecting to have the full summer to train and be “almost unlimited” in that upcoming training in July, and he’ll also focus on giving his knee more time to recuperate. However, he ultimately expects to be ready for the start of training camp in the fall.
“It should all be fine, and I should start the season normally in full form,” Fehervary added.
The 25-year-old is coming off a career year where he had 25 points and a plus/minus rating of plus-18 through 81 regular-season games, while leading all defensemen with 139 hits and managing 150 blocks, the second-most on the team.
Fehervary also noted that as he prepares to become an RFA at the end of next season, he wants to remain in D.C. as long as he can.
“Washington is like a second home already. I have friends there and that organization is great, ownership is great, all of it,” Fehervary said. “If I don’t have to, I’m definitely not going to leave Washington, probably not even my whole career."
