Capitals Select Lynden Lakovic With 27th Overall Pick In 2025 NHL Draft
The Capitals took the WHL winger with the 27th overall pick on Friday.
ARLINGTON, V.A. — The Washington Capitals chose to hold onto their 27th overall pick and made the most of it, taking Lynden Lakovic from the WHL’s Moose Jaw Warriors.
Lakovic said it was a relief to get taken by D.C. and that he had positive conversations with the Capitals at the NHL Combine.
"Washington, they have a history of winning. I'm kinda excited to get down there and learn from the best, you know, the best goal scorer ever and you know, kind of just take in everything I can,” Lakovic said.
The 6-foot-4, 200-pound winger is a talented playmaker and passer who tries to make every puck touch meaningful and can play multiple roles. He has great speed and a wicked shot, and his smooth-skating ability makes him a threat anywhere on the ice.
Through 47 games this past season with Moose Jaw, Lakovic picked up 27 goals and 31 assists for 58 points. He also plays a very disciplined game and accumulated only four penalty minutes this past season.
With Lakovic, Washington gets another winger who can play on either side and brings speed and size to the depth chart. He’s also a versatile player who doesn’t shy away from a puck battle.
The Capitals will next pick at No. 37 and have four more picks in this year’s draft.
