Logan Thompson's New Capitals Mask Is All About The Power Of Friendship
The Capitals goaltender shows off his new paint job.
ARLINGTON, V.A. — The power of friendship remains the foundation for the Washington Capitals going into the new season, and Logan Thompson wanted to highlight that on his new goalie mask.
That’s why his new paint job features a tribute to his teammates, specifically, the defense corps. On the back plate of his helmet, which features the bald eagle, Capitals logo and other tributes to the District, Thompson highlighted the numbers of each of his defensemen.
“With the D-corps, they’re guys that get in front of shots of me all year, blocking shots and bailing me out a lot,” Thompson said. “I don’t always maybe voice it, but I just wanted to show that I’m thankful and I’m thinking of them.”
For Thompson, it was also an important gesture just because of how strong the team’s off-ice dynamic and bond is.
“Chemistry’s a real thing. You can get a room full of superstars, but if guys don’t gel together off the ice, you’re not going to play well,” he pointed out. “I think with this team, we’re family in the dressing room, and we play for each other. I think that’s huge.
Thompson’s mask also captured the attention of coach Spencer Carbery, who praised him for his action.
“I think that’s for him to do that and show the respect he has for the guys that lay it on the line in front of him… I was happy to see that,” Carbery said.
