Capitals Notebook: Fehervary Joins Mix As Recovery Continues, Cristall, Leonard & More Arrive, Ovechkin's Return Imminent
The Capitals continued their informal practice sessions on Tuesday.
ARLINGTON, V.A. — Dylan Strome grabbed Martin Fehervary in a tight hug as he took the ice on Tuesday, thrilled to see his teammate and a number of newcomers join the mix as the Washington Capitals informal skates continue.
The Capitals were back at it after the Labor Day Weekend, and the vibes were immaculate as coaches Kenny McCudden and Scott Murray led a high-spirited practice.
Fehervary took the ice with the group and stayed for the first part of the informal practice, a positive sign as he returns from meniscus surgery he underwent back in April. He left the ice as the team got into small-area scrimmages and heavier contact.
The 25-year-old was skating under the watchful eye of trainers, as he mentioned to Slovak media recently that he was still dealing with some after-effects with his knee. However, the team hopes he’ll be good to go for training camp.
Up-and-comers Ryan Leonard and Andrew Cristall were the first on the ice, arriving ahead of camp as both look to be mainstays on the roster this fall. Both were showing off their speed, and the possibility that they could play on a line together is also exciting going into training camp.
In addition to Fehervary, Leonard and Cristall, Dylan McIlrath returned, as the newcomers joined Dylan Strome, Pierre-Luc Dubois, Sonny Milano, John Carlson, Trevor van Riemsdyk, Nic Dowd and Logan Thompson, who have all been skating the last few weeks.
Alex Ovechkin, meanwhile, is flying back to the United States on Friday, per MatchTV, and will join the group after his return.
