Ovechkin Breaks Culinary Record As He Prepares 895 Steaks In Russia
Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin continues to be honored for breaking Wayne Gretzky's all-time scoring record back home in Russia.
Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin chased and captured another record on Wednesday in Russia — this time, for cooking.
In honor of overtaking Wayne Gretzky’s record for the most goals in NHL history this past season, Ovechkin helped prepare 895 Indylight brand turkey steaks as part of a competition called the “Steak Cup” in Ostankino Park in his native Moscow. The 39-year-old branded the last prepared steak with his record number of 895, according to TASS.
The accomplishment was certified by a representative and put in the Russian Book of Records.
Ovechkin is currently in Russia with his family as he takes in the remainder of his offseason and begins to prepare for his 21st NHL campaign. He’s coming off one of the most pivotal seasons of his career, where he ranked third in the league with 44 goals to become the league’s all-time leading scorer. He has 897 now and is three away from 900, which would make him the first player in NHL history to hit that mark.
