Alexeyev Appears In Court For Public Intoxication Charge, Receives Fine & Deferred Disposition
The Capitals defenseman was arrested on May 17.
Washington Capitals defenseman Alex Alexeyev appeared in court on Wednesday for his public intoxication charge.
According to Arlington General District Court records, Alexeyev was fined $91 in a deferred disposition. A deferred disposition is where the court will dismiss the case and no conviction will be recorded if a certain condition — in this case, payment of the $91 fine — is met by the defendant.
Alexeyev was arrested on May 17 on Saturday in Clarendon, Virginia. Public intoxication is a Class 4 misdemeanor.
According to police spokesperson Kiyah Daniell via ARLnow, he got in a fight with another individual outside of Big Tony’s Pizzeria. Officers witnessed Alexeyev assaulting a male subject and deployed pepper spray.
He was treated for pepper spray exposure by medics at the scene and was charged with public intoxication and and he was charged with public intoxication and taken to Arlington County Jail. He was released on his own recognizance.
Alexeyev is a restricted free agent with arbitration rights going into the offseason, and the Capitals will have to choose whether or not to issue a qualifying offer to Alexeyev.
The 25-year-old defenseman did not play much in 2024-25, spending the majority of the time as a healthy scratch while appearing in just eight regular-season games. He did appear in all nine playoff games for D.C. in place of Martin Fehervary, who required knee surgery.
General manager Chris Patrick said on breakdown day that the hope was that Alexeyev would get more playing time going forward. Whether or not that comes with Washington remains to be seen.
