Silbsy's Corner: Strome Being Evaluated, Love's Firing & More Capitals Updates
Here's the latest on the Capitals going into a new week.
The Washington Capitals had the day off on Sunday, as they got time to reflect after an uncharacteristic 7-1 loss to the Ottawa Senators on the second half of a back-to-back.
Washington will return to practice on Monday, but still, has quite a bit to address.
Dylan Strome, who left Saturday’s loss in visible pain and eventually sat out the remainder of the night after attempting to return, is being evaluated for a lower-body injury.
Though coach Spencer Carbery called Strome’s injury “concerning,” it’s unclear what the severity is at this time, and he didn’t have much beyond that. The Capitals will have a further update on him on Monday.
Rasmus Sandin, meanwhile, is dealing with an upper-body injury, but skated on his own on Saturday. He has missed the last two games, but the injury is not considered long-term and he remains day-to-day.
In other team news, Mitch Love has officially been relieved of his assistant coaching duties following the NHL’s investigation into domestic abuse allegations, as well as the league’s decision to suspend him indefinitely. Per sources, the NHL and teams were made aware of a situation involving Love this offseason when he was interviewing for vacant head coaching positions.
“The organization is committed to maintaining the highest standards of conduct and accountability,” the Capitals wrote in a statement.
Here are more Capitals news and notes:
- Linus Ullmark had nothing but love for Charlie Lindgren and said that he wasn’t necessarily looking for a goalie fight when he came down the ice from his crease on Saturday to get involved in the scrum involving Lindgren and several Senators, noting that he was just trying to be there for his teammates.
- We dropped our latest prospect report at The Hockey News, detailing Lynden Lakovic and Terik Parascak’s hot starts, Jackson Crowder making noise, how Andrew Cristall and Ilya Protas are faring and more.
- Washington sent Ethen Frank back to Hershey on Saturday, but may have to again call up the forward depending on Strome’s availability. Ivan Miroshnichenko is dealing with an upper-body injury and is not available for recall.
