The Washington Capitals got a steal with the 37th overall pick, taking Swedish forward Milton Gästrin in the second round on Saturday.
The 6-foot-1, 185-pound forward was the third internationally ranked skater by NHL Central Scouting and projected to go at some point in the first round.
Gästrin is a Swedish forward who can play center or wing and plays a smart, simple game. He’s a versatile player who can drive play up the ice, and he takes good care of the puck while creating time and space for himself and making plays in front of the net.
The 18-year-old is also a leader and has worn a letter consistently while representing Team Sweden. He plays a strong 200-foot game to boot.
In 42 games in the J20 Nationell with MoDo last season, Gästrin picked up 18 goals and 24 assists for 42 points, and also added 32 points in 19 international games for Sweden's U18 team this past year.
He is set to play with MoDo in the HockeyAllsvenskan next season, the second-highest tier of hockey in Sweden.
