Capitals Recall Goalie Clay Stevenson As They Face Elimination Entering Game 5 Against Hurricanes
The Capitals have brought the 26-year-old up from Hershey.
Facing elimination on Thursday, the Washington Capitals made an unexpected move ahead of Game 5 against the Carolina Hurricanes, bringing up goaltender Clay Stevenson from the AHL’s Hershey Bears.
Stevenson is up for Charlie Lindgren, who has personal matters to attend to. Logan Thompson is good to go for Game 5.
Stevenson made his NHL debut on April 17, making 33 saves in a losing effort against the Pittsburgh Penguins. He also most recently helped Hershey stave off elimination with a 28-save performance in Game 4 of the Atlantic Division Semifinals against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.
The 25-year-old appeared in 33 games with the Bears this season, posting a .888 save percentage and two shutouts. He had a .922 save percentage in 2023-24, while helping Hershey secure a second straight Calder Cup.
