Capitals Game Notes: What To Know Ahead Of Puck Drop vs. the Kraken
The Capitals are looking to bounce back against Seattle. Here's what to know.
WASHINGTON — The Washington Capitals are eager to bounce back from a disappointing showing on Sunday and will get the chance to return to the win column as they face the Seattle Kraken.
Here’s what to know before puck drop.
Washington Capitals Line Combinations
The Capitals will run with different line combinations following Sunday’s showing. Pierre-Luc Dubois remains out with a lower-body injury and is still in a non-contact jersey, so he will miss his fourth straight game. There is potentail he could return this weekend, but will need to make it through a practice with contact first.
With Dubois out, Justin Sourdif will get a shot at center again after playing there on Sunday and impressing the coaching staff. Meanwhile, Ethen Frank will make his season debut with Sonny Milano taking a seat after a “step back” on Sunday.
Logan Thompson starts.
Here are the projected combinations:
Alex Ovechkin-Dylan Strome-Anthony Beauvillier
Hendrix Lapierre-Connor McMichael-Tom Wilson
Aliaksei Protas-Justin Sourdif-Ryan Leonard
Brandon Duhaime-Nic Dowd-Ethen Frank
Martin Fehervary-John Carlson
Jakob Chychrun-Matt Roy
Rasmus Sandin-Trevor van Riemsdyk
Logan Thompson
Charlie Lindgren
Washington Capitals Stats & Storylines
- Tom Wilson has had a stellar start to the season with a team-leading nine points so far. He’s gotten on the scoresheet in all but one game this season.
- Dylan Strome has points in three straight outings.
- Alex Ovechkin is two goals away from 900 in his career and scored his first of the year back on Friday. His splits are pretty good against the Kraken, with five goals in egiht career games.
- The power play has gotten a goal in three straight games, though there’s still work to be done with the unit still having a lackluster success rate. Look for it to get a spark with Ryan Leonard up on the first unit.
- Brandon Duhaime will play in his 300th career NHL game.
