Capitals Development Camp Notebook: Hutson Powers Team Red To Future Caps Cup, Top Performers & Takeaways
The Washington Capitals wrapped up their 2025 Development Camp with their annual 3-on-3 tournament. Here are all the takeaways.
ARLINGTON, V.A. — The Washington Capitals wrapped up their 2025 Development Camp with their annual 3-on-3 tournament, where players were drafted and put onto five different teams to compete for the coveted Future Caps Cup.
Team Red, captained by Ryan Chesley and coached by former prospect Benton Maass, was stacked, with Cole Hutson, Petr Sikora, Eriks Mateiko, Seamus Powell and Chase Anderson rounding out the roster. Ultimately, they were the ones to win.
Hutson led the charge, scoring goal after goal — including a bardown tally from long distance and a couple of clutch tallies — to easily put Red in the final.
Team Navy, captained by Joaquim Lemay and coached by David Warsofsky, featured Andrew Cristall, Miroslav Satan Jr., Ryan St. Louis, Stan Cooley, Noaln Krenzen and Antoine Keller, and ultimately made an impressive run to the final, with Cooley providing the OT winner in the semifinal to lift the team to a matchup against red.
In that final game, Ryan Chesley scored a decisive goal, while Hutson chipped in a few more times and didn’t shy away from physicality, to secure the Future Caps Cup.
Also standing out were Ludwig Persson, who showed leadership and good vision, along with light blue teammate Terik Parascak, who was using his speed and hockey IQ to his advantage in the games while also showing some grit.
The youngest team was gray, which consisted of Lynden Lakovic, Milton Gästrin and Maxim Schäfer, among others. Alexander Suzdalev led that group well, and this year’s draft picks proved to hold their own, but ultimately, got roped into shoveling the ice when they came up short.
Sammi’s Dev Camp Takes
- Hockey just comes naturally for Cole Hutson, but he’s also a perfectionist. It shows in everything he does; he never holds back and loves the competition. He’s a passionate player who is going to make serious noise this year.
- Andrew Cristall is stronger on the puck than he was last year, and again, I wouldn’t be surprised if he makes it through training camp with a roster spot if he continues to trend in the right direction.
- Eriks Mateiko continues to trend in the right direction, but also, props to Petr Sikora. The 2024 sixth-rounder was a force to be reckoned with and skating extremely well, and has made significant strides in his game as he continues to develop.
- Joaquim Lemay was one of the best skaters and performers at camp, as was Cam Allen, who’s come a long way following a tough year in London.
- Antoine Keller continues to impress and is ready to make the jump to pro North American hockey this year after signing with the Hershey Bears.
- Both Lynden Lakovic and Milton Gästrin signed their entry-level deals this week. Exciting times, and management is looking forward to seeing what both can do after strong first camps. Two first-round talents. Maxim Schäfer also fit right in, sneaky good pick.
- Fans are going to love Jackson Crowder in the years to come. Enthusiastic, hard-working kid with a great attitude and grit out there. Doesn’t hold back and loves to throw down.
- Also keep an eye on Aron Dahlqvist; sneaky good pick for Washington late in the draft. A 6-foot-3 defenseman with aplomb.
