Capitals Development Camp Notebook: Testing, Clinics Close Out Day 3, Guest Coach Chiasson Details Standouts
The Washington Capitals kept development camp going with some more skating work on Day 3.
ARLINGTON, V.A. — The Washington Capitals prospects skated to the goal line together and made their way up alphabetically to take a lap around the rink and do their part for annual on-ice testing.
After that, it was time to get into more work with the puck and get in some NHL drills, and the day later wrapped up with small area games before the players helped out with hosting a youth clinic.
All 31 prospects took the ice with the Capitals Youth Hockey Development staff hosted a station-based clinic focusing on skill development for youth players ages 6-12.
When it comes to who’s stood out so far, guest coach and 2018 Capitals Stanley Cup champion Alex Chiasson took some time to evaluate who’s been performing well so far.
“I’ll be biased, he’s a (Boston University) guy, but Cole Hutson. I’m a big fan, he’s got a bright future ahead of him,” Chiasson said. “A lot of the forwards, too. I’ve liked (Lynden) Lakovic, the kid that they drafted this year, he’s really impressed me. Andrew Cristall… it’s been fun to kind of see how the week has evolved so far.”
Beyond Cristall and Hutson, some other stop performers at camp so far include Ryan Chesley and Cam Allen, whose skating has taken a significant step forward. Maxim Schäfer, who went in the third round of the 2025 NHL Draft, is also keeping up just fine with the big names.
Washington has two days left of camp.
